New Camera!

It was recently my birthday and I was lucky enough to get the Canon eos 700D. Below are a few of the photos I have taken so far with it.

Editing attempt

I really liked this original photo (above) but I particularly liked the reflection seen within her left eye. Whilst I did like the original framing  of the image I decided to crop it down the bridge of her nose to focus in on her eye. I then increased the shadow effect which increased the contrast between her eye and skin.

Cow Fields in Alton

A few days ago I went up to a field of cows a few minutes walk away from my college. I chose to visit here because it was just the right time of year to see the calves as well! Below are my favourite images from the shoot.

Use of Natural Light

These photos were just taken with the use of natural light from a window that we were sat next to. Becasue I wanted to continue with the natural theme I tried to pick photos were her expression was quite natural and the background was as neutral as possible.

Reflectors and flash!

Today I was introduced to the concept of manipulating natural light through reflectors and fill in flash. By changing the flash intensity you have far greater control over the exposure of the image. Reflectors reflect any available natural light to give more even exposure.

King's Pond - Alton

Today I completed my first shoot for my luminosity project. It was completed at King's Pond in Alton. The weather conditions did make shooting slightly unpleasant however it was well worth going to see the new ducklings and cygnets!

I like the pattern of shadow and light that you can see as you look down the path. Also the leading line created by the path in the bottom right corner. (1/60  F/5.6)

I like the simple composition of the image and how only one of the flowers is in focus. (1/60 F/6.3)

This image I feel is a bit too dark in the background and there is a slight focusing issue however I like the layout of the swan surrounded by the cygnets and the fact that you can see them mirrored in the pond reflection. (1/80 F/5.6)

This is my favourite image from the shoot as I really like the composition of the three swans and the lines created by them and the parallel path. I cropped this image into a long short image to focus on more on the swans. (1/60 F/5.6)

I chose to include this photo because I like the reflection created by the overhanging branch. I also like the effect of the sunlight shining through the leaves. (1/40 F/5)

Again the the placement of the swans within this image. However a duck walked into the background behind the second swans head which stops the empty background. (1/60 F/5.6)

This image is cropped in close to focus on the swans head and neck. The colours within this image are not as warm as in the others but I prefer this as it makes the orange of the beak stand out more. (1/60 F/6.3)

Editing attempt

From the photos I took whilst playing about with the settings I picked my favourite image and tried editing it in the software picasa. The original image was 1/60   F/5.6  ISO 320. I then changed the saturation of the colours and cropped the image tight to the main focal point.

Camera settings!

Today I have been playing about with the settings on my camera (Nikon D3100) Primarily I was looking at shutter speed, aperture and ISO. Below are some of the results I got.

These two images show ISO and the difference it creates. The darker image is at ISO 100 and the other at ISO 1600. The lower the ISO the more detail is caught within the photo however the image becomes very under exposed, both images had an aperture of F/5.6

Next I moved onto aperture the two images below both had a shutter speed of 1/60 however the underexposed image had an aperture of  F/12 and the correctly exposed image was at F/5.6. I still feel that the F/5.6 is almost overexposed so an aperture of perhaps F/8 might have been better.

Luminosity Project Introduction

Over the next few weeks I am going to be using this blog to document my progress in my latest A level project, titled 'Luminosity'. As well as showing you my own images I will also be posting other photographers work that may inspire me.

Mystery and Imagination...

I have recently finished a college project with the title 'Mystery and Imagination'. Below are a few of my favourite images.
